June Tips

•This is still a good time to buy and plant daylilies. Buying while in full bloom will ensure that you get the color and height you prefer for your garden.

•Continue with a spraying program on roses. Spider mites can be a real problem when the weather gets hot and dry. A miticide, such as Avid or
Kelthane, can be added to regular spray mixture. Mix according to label
directions. It will probably take 2 sprayings to get rid of the mites.

•Tie vines and roses to arbors and trellises as they continue to grow. Do not weave rose canes in and out of trellises and arbors. This will make pruning almost impossible and can damage arbors and trellises when trying to remove dead canes. Tie the canes to the framework instead. Grass twine is perfect for this because it will not cut into the rose canes.

•Plant sunflowers this month to harvest in the fall. Seeds can be used to feed the birds in winter.
