Question: How
do I make my amaryllis bulb re-bloom?
Answer: After the flowers
fade, set to grow in a sunny window and keep evenly moist and
apply flowering plant food. In the early fall, sink the potted
bulb into a shady area. Keep moist and fertilize monthly until
fall. Before the first frost bring the potted bulb indoors and
store it in a dark cool place (such as a storage room). Clip
foliage to an inch from the bulb. Withhold water and let the
bulb rest for 2 to 3 months. Anytime after the resting period,
bring the bulb back to a warm sunny window and resume watering,
a little at a first, more as the flowers begin active growth.
Soon a bloom stalk should begin to emerge from the bulb. Bulbs
(and blooms) will get bigger with each year.

Question: When is it the best time to start
planting herbs in my garden?
Answer: Plant some herbs in the fall and
others in the spring. A great way to get started
is to attend The Everyday Gardener's herb sales
in October and April. In the fall, plant any of
the perennial herbs such as thyme, oregano, bay,
and rosemary in addition to the herbs that do
best in cool weather: parsley, dill, sage, and
cilantro. In the spring you can still plant
perennial herbs along with basil. Strawberry
jars are a great way to plant herbs if space is
a problem. The jars also make a striking display
in the garden.
